Practise the present tense of -ar verbs (Latin American forms)
On this page, you'll practise all of the forms of the present tense of
-ar verbs used in Latin America. We therefore won't include
the vosotros form of the verb, which is generally only used
in Spain.
(Alternatively, you can practise
Peninsular Spanish forms, including
the vosotros forms.)
That means that we'll be practising the following extra forms here:
- the they form (ellos/ellas in Spanish), formed
by replacing -ar with -an;
- the plural "you" form, which is the same as the they form.
In Latin American Spanish, the plural you form is the same as the
they form, ending in -n. The plural subject pronoun meaning
you is ustedes, although like Spanish subject pronouns in
general, it is generally omitted and you can omit it here.
You'll still have to use the other forms practised on the previous pages.
If you've forgotten anything,
you can always go back to the yo and
tú forms or él/ella
and nosotros forms before continuing here.
Once you get to the stage where you can fill in this grid (several times!) without
hesitating, then you'll have mastered the basic present tense forms of -ar verbs.
Next, we'll consider a handful of -ar verbs which
have a slight complication of a vowel change
in the stem in certain forms.
