Practise the present tense of -ar verbs

If you've read the previous explanation of the present tense of -ar verbs then you'll be ready to practise. For now, we're going to start with the I and you (singular, informal) forms. We'll use the following verbs:

trabajar to work	caminar to walk
preguntar to ask	terminar to finish
tomar to drink	esperar to hope
dibujar to draw	amar to love
explicar to explain	utilizar to use

Suggest a change / Cambios sugeridos

Remember:

to make the "I ..." form, remove the -ar and add -o;
to make the "you ..." form, remove the -ar and add -as (or, if you prefer to see it this way, replace the final -r with -s).

So, given the verbs above, fill in the following grid with the correct Spanish verb form given the required English meaning. When you press RETURN or TAB after typing an answer, it will be "marked" and you'll be presented with a tick or cross. Practise using this grid until you're happy that you understand how these verb forms work, and ideally so that you've memorised most of these verbs, as we'll be using them on the next pages.

N.B. You can optionally type the word yo or tú before the verb form, but remember that Spanish speakers normally only put these words in for contrast or emphasis. So for now, it's recommended that you just type the single verb form to get used to them appearing on their own.
